Here are a few points I want to go over.
- Christians famously believe in ‘intelligent design’.
- Your actual belief is shown by your actions, not your words.
- Atomic Farming
Contrary to the ideas of evolution Christians famously believe in intelligent design. Even Christians who are trying to bring evolution into the Church acknowledge that evolution would only be possible if guided by God.
Q: What is intelligent design?
A: The belief that creation (everything) was designed by an intelligent being (God). Unlike traditional evolution where we just accidentally became who we are today.
So let’s put a pin in that real quick.
Belief
What you believe is shown by what you do, not what you say, really. If you say “I trust this chair will be sturdy enough for me to sit on it” but then refuse to sit on it or brace yourself as you do, then you never really believed what you were saying, right? But by watching what you do we can tell what you actually believe. This is also apparent with politicians. Many (at least US) politicians say “God this” and “God that”, but then don’t live their life representing God, we can see that the whole thing was a lie.
James 1:22-27 22: But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. 23: For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24: for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25: But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does. 26: If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
Really just verse 22 is needed but the whole bit gives good context.
Atomic Gardening
To get to our modern food we decided to dabble in a little genetic modifications. However, when we decided to do this, we didn’t have the ability to just modify genes directly like we can now. So we decided to basically speed-run “hopeful monster” evolution by dumping large amounts of radiation into seeds, then planting them. If seeds grew up and had attributes we liked; such as increasing the yield, quality, or even something as superficial as the color of the crop, they kept it. They would then take this modified seed, plant it a bunch, then sell it to people as if nothing happened. This seems like quite the bad idea right?
The the good ol’ “scientists” don’t seem to think so. But you must remember, these “scientists” are going to be, in majority, materialists.
It all comes together
This blind trust in “scientists” as always struck me as weird. When I say “always” really what I’m referring to is post-2020 version of me.
Growing up obviously I didn’t really care about any of this and just did what my parents did.
However, in 2020, I was in high school. Right at the age of where you start caring about the wider country or world as a whole, and the veil of “everything is ok, because we are so advanced” starts to rip.
In 2020, obviously, COVID was everywhere. People were desperate for our “such advanced science and technology” to come through and save us once again. (Kinda sounds like faith in a god, but that’s for another time.) And luckily for the believers, their “god” provided.
Well, somewhat, but the result also kinda would make people just drop dead while at peak health. Something that not even COVID was doing to them. But really, if you notice that you are just a crazy heretic who is polluting the good believers with your dangerous ideas.
Just a few days ago I realized this divide was probably based of the underlying belief in intelligent design. If I believe (actually believe, as previously stated) that I was created by God, exactly as I should be, why would I want to augment myself with human technology?
This same problem will come up when we decide to start genetically editing humans. Those of us who believe we were created by God, obviously hate that idea. But the people who think that we are just mutated pond-scum (materialists) say:
“Why not? May as well do everything to augment the mistake that is us, since we know such much now!. We are so smart after all, we can right the wrongs that happened during our evolution.”
But even to those people I would say: “Look at atomic gardening. If it were so great why are people allergic to so much food now. Why is so much food bad for you? These are effects we are only discovering some 70 years after the modifications, basically a whole generation. When we go to modify humans, how long will it take to see the negative effects? Will it be too late?” We certainly are not at smart as we would like to think, we tried messing with food, and only messed it up.
It seems obviously be we should probably leave the creating to God.
