I went to see The Odyssey in theaters as it just came out. This was the first movie theater I’ve been to in probably over a year, so obviously, I’m a bit disconnected from the scene. Expectedly there were trailers for other movies leading up to the movie (all of which looked uninteresting.)

But there was one trailer right before the movie started for a horror movie. Since The Odyssey is rated R it’s not totally unexpected that there would be more graphic trailers. (Though I didn’t know The Odyssey was rated R until I just looked it up. The movie could’ve probably been PG-13 if not for some out-of-place usage of “f**k”.)

What struck me as particularly weird was how demonic/evil the horror movie ad was. It appears that the whole point of the movie is a mom has a evil doppelganger (who is ostensibly trying to kill them? That wasn’t clear.) But it was interesting how the horror movie needed to strike right to the core of what’s sacred. The family unit. The whole trailer’s theme was: “Can the dad and child trust the person who claims to be the benevolent mom? Or is it the malevolent mom?” That whole concept is really evil. The bond between the mom and dad should not be questioned and the bond from parent to child likewise, should not be questioned, and vise versa.

Everyone knows that Hollywood is “satanic” but it’s just so bizarre that somebody would cast a child (looked to be 8-ish) into a horror movie. But from what I’ve heard from people who like horror movies “everything is just creeper when it’s a child”. Probably because you are stepping on and mutilating something that is sacred.

The trailer was so courrupt that it interfiered with the viewing experiance of the actual movie we paid to see. That experiance was bad enough to write-off movie theaters.
